Under the patronage of the Académie des Technologies, the ParisTech Thesis Award rewards young researchers, selected from 500 graduating doctors each year in the ParisTech universities, in which the thesis works, of outstanding academic quality, have contributed to the progress of scientific knowledge, providing greater understanding of society’s problems and technological innovation.
Within this framework, the jury, presided over by Pierre-Etienne BOST, General Delegate of the Académie des Technologies, was pleased to award the ParisTech Thesis Award 2008 to the following young doctoral graduates on November 19, 2008, in celebration of the first anniversary of the Institut Doctoral ParisTech:
- Thibault Cantat (Ecole Polytechnique) for his thesis entitled: Nouveaux ligands carbènes à base d’hétéroéléments (P,S) : étude théorique et application en chimie organométallique et en catalyse. (New hetero element-based carbene ligands (P,S): Theoretical study and application in organometallic chemistry and in cataylsis)
- Alexandre Dalloz (MINES ParisTech), for his thesis entitled: Etude de l’endommagement par la découpe des aciers dual phase pour application automobile. (Study on damage mechanisms caused by dual phase steel cutting for automobile application)
- Alexei Ourjoumtsev (Institut d’Optique) for his thesis entitled: Etude théorique et expérimentale des superpositions quantiques cohérentes et d’états intriqués non gaussiens de la lumière. (Theoretical and experimental study on quantum coherent superpositions and non Gaussian intrinsic light status)
The thesis papers of the laureates are available online in PASTEL, the virtual library of theses defended at ParisTech.

2009 Award
The award selection process 2009 is based on theses defended in the laboratories at ParisTech universities between January 1 and December 31, 2008.
The research unit directors must support the applications and submit them to the head of doctoral training at their university from January to May.
Each head of doctoral training goes through an initial selection process of the dossiers he/she receives and transmits the selected dossiers to the ParisTech Research Commission.
After examining the applications, the ParisTech Research Commission will choose 9 finalists in summer 2009.
A jury composed of esteemed persons from the economic and industrial world, presided over by a member of the Académie des Technologies, will audition the 9 finalists selected by the ParisTech Research Commission during a public session at the end of November 2009. The winners will be declared after deliberation by the jury.
