Finding housing in the Paris region is a critical issue. When staying for a few days, it is possible to stay in a hotel or a youth hostel. But for longer stays other solutions are more adapted.
The sooner you deal with the problem the better, and we would suggest that you if you are planning to study here you should start looking into it as of May.
Documents required: tax return form and 3 pay slips (your own or your parents'), bank guarantee from your parents.
Once you have these documents, you can either go through an estate agent (in which case, the agent’s fees are roughly equivalent to 1 month’s rent), or buy newspapers and ring landlords directly.
Remember it is very difficult to find an apartment in Paris and its suburbs, so do start looking early.
You will need to subscribe an insurance contract. Most economical ones are to be obtained from the student "mutuelles" (see Health Cover).
Flat-sharing is a popular way of finding housing by renting larger apartments.
As a ParisTech student, you are entitled to apply for this category of accommodation. But you will have to contact them very early on to make reservations.
