Equal Opportunities
Convinced that diversity is the source of richness and performance, the ParisTech colleges are committed to implementing actions that encourage the diversification of their students’ social origins.
They have increased tutoring actions to give young people from sensitive urban zones or modest families the desire to continue on to higher education by overcoming the self-censorship phenomenon, financial barriers or geographic isolation.
Tutoring: a shared benefit
All colleges are driven by the same attitude: offer a shared benefit, not just for high school students, preparatory classes and secondary schools, but also for “tutor” students for their current development and with a view to their future responsibilities.
If the first objective of these actions involves the personal development of the high school/secondary school students concerned, building and/or increasing the awareness of sciences and technology are also objectives.
Strong partnerships have been formed with the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the Ministry of National Education, the Junior Minister in charge of City Policy, the Ile-de-France Regional Council and manufacturers, to bring all projects to a successful conclusion.
Beyond tutoring, the ParisTech colleges carry out actions to encourage the diversification of students’ social origins and strive to remove the financial obstacle for the most disadvantaged.
A few figures
- 300 student tutors every year in the ParisTech colleges
- 4,000 high school or secondary school students involved every year

At the head of 27 “cordées de la réussite,” the ParisTech schools are closely involved in this programme launched in November 2008 by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. The “cordées de la réussite” designates partnerships put in place between one or more higher education institutions and high schools. These partnerships are implemented through multiple actions like tutoring, educational support, cultural support, etc. |
Cyrille van Effenterre, Président of ParisTech :
“We have to face the challenge posed to our entire educational system by the decline of students from modest milieus in higher education. ParisTech schools are aware of the special role they have to play. Our goal is to help identify all talents and to give them the desire and means to access higher education.”
