Symposium Case Rectors Europe : Fundraising overview

May 19th, 2011

ParisTech’s President, Cyrille van Effenterre, welcomed the Symposium for European Rectors/Presidents: Fundraising for Excellence, organized by CASE EUROPE (council for advancement and support of education). The event gathered around forty rectors, university vice-chancellors, principals and actors in development from all over Europe (Finland, Sweden, United Kingdom, Slovenia, Spain and the USA, etc.).

Conferences and workshops provided an opportunity to explore the range of issues involved in raising funds in a non-Anglo Saxon environment: i.e. relevance and methods of fundraising campaigns, matching university priorities to donor motivations, the return on investment, and the key role of the CEO/Development Director duo.

Corinne Degoutte, Executive Director of Foundation ParisTech, Bernard Ramanantsoa, Dean of HEC Paris, and Xavier Michel, President of École polytechnique, spoke in turn of how funding-raising strategy can be a lever for developing European tertiary education.

China Horizon Fair 2011

May 12th, 2011

The fourth Horizon Chine forum took place on 12 May 2011 at MINES ParisTech and was a great success. The recruitment forum, which is jointly organized by ParisTech’s Franco-Chinese association and Paristech, targets Chinese students and Sinophile French students at the college. The event was inaugurated in the presence of Nicolas Cheimanoff, Deputy Director of MINES ParisTech, Xiaoyu ZHU, Minister Counsellor at the education department of the Chinese Embassy in France, and ParisTech’s international delegate, Jean-Pierre Broyart.

A total of 200 students had the opportunity to meet recruitment specialists and operational staff at the event. The forum showed steady attendance with the presence of 9 international companies:

  • Arcelor Mittal
  • DragonFly group
  • Faurecia
  • Huawei
  • L’Oréal
  • Michelin
  • PSA
  • Saint-Gobain
  • Schneider Electric

During the event, round tables, presentations and videoconference discussions gave students a taste of career opportunities in a Franco-Chinese environment and the chance to consider economic development issues in China. The forum illustrates the international commitment of ParisTech, which has been establishing strong relations with China for a decade, involving 9 of the biggest Chinese universities and including a mutual recruitment policy for engineers and doctoral exchanges.

Climate-KIC Summer School - 2010

Climate-KIC organised its first ever Summer School on Climate Change and Innovation in London, Zurich and Paris. The 44 students from around Europe (Germany, Netherlands, England, France, Spanish, etc.) took this course in ParisTech school venues and a choice of exceptional spots. ParisTech partner business firms working together on this shared European project – EDF, Suez Environnement, Thalès and Vinci – teamed up to contribute.

The students and executives had several opportunities to exchange views during the workshops and case studies broaching business issues and innovative angles to address them. The students also toured Suez Environnement’s International Research Centre on Water and the Environment and spent that day discussing water management (water stress and agriculture, healthcare and agronomic risks, and water treatment options). Vinci also hosted the students to talk about eco-designing buildings and infrastructure with Benoît Peuportier, the ParisTech-Vinci Eco-conception chair holder.

Nearly 300 French and Chinese students got together to talk to international group executives (Orbéo MD Philippe Rosier, EDF China Division Director Jean-Yves Guignard and Huawei France President Leo Sun) at the round tables on Franco-Chinese cooperation on energy, sustainable development and telecommunications.

Talent sponsoring

Hudson, a talent management consultant, signed its sponsorship agreement with ParisTech on 16 April 2010. We will mainly be working together on the ParisTech Doctoral Institute’s Doctoral Program in Management (DPM), which basically provides insights into the corporate world and how it works for about 50 ParisTech school students every year. This four-week intensive course that ParisTech devised in 2006, and which the ParisTech École des Ponts MBA has been running since, features world-class professors interactively tying together academic management notions and real life in the business world.
Hudson will be contributing to and complementing this course working with DPM students on their job and career plans, and promoting ParisTech school PhDs.
