The scholarship programmes
Committed colleges
Each year, the ParisTech colleges assign a significant share of their funds to scholarships, thus releasing some students from all or part of the financial cost of their studies. The aim of the scholarships is to boost the colleges’ effort in favour of equal opportunities and the international recruitment of excellence.
Thus, all the ParisTech colleges have devised an arsenal of ad-hoc measures designed to support students financially during their courses. They have drawn up complete systems of financial aid in the form of:
- scholarships decided on merit or excellence,
- scholarships based on social criteria,
- scholarships to favour mobility.
The ParisTech colleges are committed to minimising the risk of future students renouncing their studies or lowering their career ambitions for financial reasons.
Support by companies
Some of the industrial partners have set up their own scholarships programmes or co-finance programmes, to which students can apply. Companies also provide support in the framework of specific partnerships: teaching and research chairs, international programmes, etc. Some companies also provide subsistence scholarships to particularly deserving foreign students who are admitted into engineering courses in the ParisTech colleges.
Companies frequently finance doctoral students working on a research subject of common interest, organised jointly with the laboratory concerned, notably via the CIFRE scholarships.
Decisive priorities
Guaranteeing equality of academic choice
Students must not be deflected from their fundamental aim, e.g. to complete their academic and human development.
The ParisTech scholarships release students from certain material pressures. They reduce the difficulties inherent in the cost of living (accommodation, transport, books, student life, etc.) or the fees. They thus provide the latitude required for the development of their potential. Thus, students can have access at every stage of their studies to additional resources in proportion to their needs. However, these scholarships are not one-way: they depend on the student’s compliance with his/her academic commitments.
Possessing an international competitive asset
At international level, the type of scholarship is a decisive selection criterion for students. The ability of colleges to offer more or less generous scholarships is decisive for many students when it comes to the definitive choice of a college. The scholarship system is an undeniable element of competitiveness. ParisTech SC wishes to attract the best, so it needs to offer scholarships that are sufficiently attractive to draw the best students.
These scholarships complement the grants allocated by the national authorities. After training in the ParisTech colleges, these students with their dual culture become elite executives for French groups and their international subsidiaries. Apart from their engineering skills, they bring their national culture enriched by French culture and familiarity with the company’s working methods.
