IDEA League
A constellation of five prestigious institutions, IDEA League is a network of excellence grouping four great European scientific and technological universities and ParisTech:
- Imperial College de Londres (Great-Britain)
- Technological University of Delft (Netherlands)
- Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, Technological University of Zurich (Switzerland)
- Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule-Aachen of Aix-la-Chapelle (Germany)
The objectives of this network, created in October 1999, are to:
- develop common activities in the field of research and education
- develop structured exchanges of students, professors and researchers as well as ideas and expertise
The network represents more than 60,000 students and approximately 9,000 graduates per year.
Its most significant projects are:
- the comparison of programme curricula in terms of contents, level and quality with a view to developing a common definition of the key lesson of their units of instruction,
- the organisation of vertical mobility for students (between universities after the license or bachelor’s level) or horizontal (during the Master’s curriculum),
- the construction of joint Master’s programmes between the different European institutions, and
- the promotion of coordinated quality initiatives. This involves comparing and linking the quality approaches developed by each institution in order to develop an international quality measurement, management and accreditation system.
ParisTech and IDEA League
The four prestigious European technological universities that founded IDEA League wanted to expand this network of excellence and chose ParisTech as the French partner in 2006.
ParisTech was already a primary partner of some of these technological universities for many years through the ATHENS network.
The IDEA League’s new projects
In addition to the mobility, exchange, scholarship and quality approach projects undertaken so far, the IDEA League intends to establish scientific collaborations in the scientific and technological research fields, which are considered as a priority in Europe. The practical details of these partnerships can take different forms:
The IDEA League is based on knowledge sharing and an exchange of practices. By itself it represents a preferred space for benchmarking.
